Activision Blizzard Comes Forward on Claims of NFTs Incorporation.
No NFTs for Activision Blizzard players as Mike Ybarra has quashed the rumors of Activision Blizzard incorporating NFTs in its games. Previously it was widely reported that Activision Blizzard was assessing the interest of its fan base and players in cryptocurrency and NFT products.
Over the weekend, the gaming industry was full of reports which showed that Activision Blizzard might introduce NFTs and blockchain technology in its upcoming games.
The reports claimed that a YouGov survey was circulated among the Activision Blizzard player base for assessing player interest in “emerging and future trends.”
However, Ybarra rebuked the claims with a simple reply, “No one is doing NFTs.” An all out blatant no from Activision Blizzard has taken many by surprise.
The refutation on Twitter by Ybarra has resulted in a lot of confusion regarding play-to-earn models and other blockchain projects coming to current and future Activision Blizzard games.
The concerns are evident among the crypto gaming community as Ybarra has bluntly shut down the claims. However, Ybarra has yet to clarify the purpose, objective, and content of the survey in question.
Blizzard further commented on the situation while talking to GamesRadar and said, “The company conducts surveys regularly on a wide range of emerging topics to better learn about the interests of our players, regardless of our involvement in such trends.”
This clarification from Ybarra was a massive letdown for the crypto gaming community.
However, several other companies are eager to embrace the new technology of Web 3 and blockchain and integrate them into upcoming games.
Notable companies that are still interested in blockchain, NFTs, and crypto gaming are Sega and Ubisoft.
Sega’s producer Masayoshi Kikuchi said that the future of gaming “expand to involve new areas such as cloud gaming and NFT.”
