Ubisoft Partners with Aleph.im for blockchain storage systems and other services for Ubisoft Quartz.
Ubisoft pushes further with its plans with NFTs and blockchain by partnering up with Aleph.im. The partnership will bring playable NFTs to its AAA games like Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. The collaboration is for Ubisoft’s new blockchain-powered platform Ubisoft Quartz.
Aleph.im is cross-blockchain decentralized storage that also acts as a computing network. The platform will provide decentralized storage for Ubisoft’s dynamic NFT’s on Ubisoft Quartz.
Moreover, Aleph.im will provide a distributed cloud platform with uninterrupted computing services, file storage, and data hosting all based on serverless services.
The NFT metadata of Ubisoft Quartz will be stored in Aleph.im’s decentralized storage system which has over 70 nodes.
As for the NFT ownership, it will use the Tezos blockchain technology to keep records and traces.
Ubisoft is one of the handfuls of companies that supports the idea of blockchain-based gaming. It launched Ubisoft Quartz based so that players can own playable NFTs for its AAA game Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.
This will be for the first time where players will own a dynamic NFT and in-game digital asset like a weapon, vehicle, etc. while playing a AAA game. P
layers will have to own Ubisoft’s Digits to buy in-game NFTs with complete rights of ownership.
NFTs owners will also have the right to sell the NFTs on open markets.
Blockchain technical director at Ubisoft, Didier Genevois, said, “We have received a lot of feedback since the announcement, and we hear both the encouragement and the concerns,” Genevois said. “We understand where the sentiment towards the technology comes from, and we need to keep taking it into consideration every step of the way.
This experiment is meant to understand how the value proposition of decentralization can be received and embraced by our players.”
He further added, “We know it is a major change that will take time, but we will stay true to our three principles which are: use the tech responsibly: building a safe environment for players to get acquainted with these new possibilities; only leverage energy-efficient, proof-of-stake blockchains; and focus on meaningful value propositions for players that benefit their gaming experience.”
The year 2022 will also record a steady migration or embracing of blockchain-based gaming and projects.
